With 50% of California in private hands, landowner participation in restoring our natural resources is vital.
Advancing Restoration in California
After a decade and a half of on-the-ground experience in 50 key California watersheds, and two years of in-depth interviews with numerous stakeholders followed by careful analysis, Sustainable Conservation is pleased to release, “Creating a Statewide Program for Voluntary Restoration on Private Lands.”
This report documents the accomplishments and lessons learned in implementing our popular permit coordination program, Partners in Restoration, providing important insights to help shape the next generation of restoration efforts in the state.
Inside, Sustainable Conservation makes a set of recommendations for accelerating habitat enhancement and erosion control projects, to significantly improve water quality and the health of fish and wildlife populations. We are proposing a broad public-private partnership to steward California’s natural resources by creating incentives and removing barriers for committed landowners. If implemented, our ambitious proposal would result in statewide programmatic permits for landowners and their partners to undertake small-scale riparian restoration projects.
Turning Recommendations into ActionSustainable Conservation and our partners advocate for a statewide approach for permitting and capacity-building to meet the demand for voluntary restoration, boosting the number and distribution of environmentally beneficial projects on farms, ranches, and timberlands.
We invite you to study the report and contact us if you would like to support our proposal.
